MORELIA (Reuter) - Thousands of supporters of Mexico's leftist Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) packed the centre of this south-central city on Tuesday to protest at what they called rigged election results for state governor. Cristobal Arias, PRD candidate for governor of Michoacan state in last Sunday's elections, said that election officials had announced falsified results giving victory to the governing Institutional Revolutionary Party.
Figures gathered by the PRD showed a clear victory for his own party, he said, calling for a massive campaign of non-violent protest. 'This is just the beginning, this is not over,' Mr Arias told the meeting, described as a victory celebration.
