PEKING - Putting valour before discretion, seven of the student activists involved in the June 1989 pro-democracy demonstration yesterday publicly petitioned the Chinese government to revise its verdict on the incident, writes Teresa Poole. 'We believe the government's characterisation of it as a 'riot and a counter-revolutionary rebellion' is unjust.'
