Panamanians celebrated yesterday the peaceful election of a new president five years after a violent election that was marred by fraud and annulled by dictator Manuel Noriega, AP reports from Panama City. The winner, Ernesto Perez Balladares, had managed the campaign of General Noriega's hand-picked candidate in 1989 but distanced his Democratic Revolutionary Party from the ousted leader in this election.
