Footage has emerged showing the moment a Palestinian woman attacked an Israeli security guard with a knife.

CCTV picked up a woman walking up to the guard, who is standing at the entrance of the West Bank settlement of Beitar Illit, talking and handing over some form of documentation.

She is then seen to pull out a knife from her bag and stab him. The guard was able to dodge the full force of the attack and only suffered a minor wound.

The woman ignored warning shots and calls to stop and was subsequently shot dead, the Israeli Defence Ministry said.

"I was standing at the city's guard post when I noticed the terrorist walking towards me," the guard told the Algemeiner Journal.

"As she approached, she presented her green Palestinian ID card. So I told her she could not enter. While I was talking, I saw her putting her hand in her purse. [When] I asked her why she was [doing that], she took out a knife and managed to scratch me with it."
