British tourist stuck in Dubai after racking up £36,000 in speeding tickets in rented Lamborghini

A British tourist is stranded in Dubai where he faces a fine of £36,000 for speeding tickets accrued in a hired Lamborghini.

Farah Hashi, 25, from Newport, cannot afford the 175,000-dirham fine, according to his brother, Adman, 50.

Adman Hashi claims the dealership from which Farah rented the Lamborghini Huracan seized his passport when it learned of the fines. The company, on the other hand, told the National newspaper he had agreed to leave it as a guarantee.

Mr Hashi reportedly broke the speed limit on one of the city’s busiest roads 33 times in the early hours of Tuesday, triggering every speed camera on the route and reaching 240kmph (150mph).

The yellow Lamborghini was reportedly parked outside the luxury Five hotel on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah island for at least a week after the fines were issued. The dealership said it had not claimed the car back from the tourist because it feared being made liable for the fines.

Adman Hashi, told the BBC that the Saeed Ali Rent A Car dealership demanded his brother’s passport after the fine was issued and he handed it over out of “fear”.

“There is no way he has that money. He is out of work at the minute and went to Dubai to visit friends,” he said.

Farah Hashi borrowed money to pay for the Dubai trip and one of his friends paid the Lamborghini’s rental fee, his brother said. Adman, who added: “He was caught doing 200 km per hour but he didn’t know the laws over there.”
