A Briton has been found stabbed to death in Saudi Arabia.

The victim was discovered in an apartment in the east of the country, the Associated Press news agency reported.

The Foreign Office said only that a British national died in Al Khobar yesterday.

A spokeswoman did not give the gender of the victim.

She said: "The death is being treated as suspicious. Local police are investigating and we are informing the family at the moment."

In a statement, Police Colonel Abdul-Aziz al-Sulaiman said the Briton had a dispute with an Egyptian man, who was taken to hospital with hand injuries.

Interior Ministry spokesman Brigadier General Mansour al-Turki confirmed the Briton's death, stressing the killing was not terror-related.
