MONROVIA (Reuter) - Liberia slid deeper into chaos despite a new peace treaty, with widespread fighting, a flight of refugees and the United Nations appealing for the release of observers and aid workers it said were held by rebels. Much of the combat was in the town of Gbarnga, headquarters of Charles Taylor's National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL), where street fighting raged between renegades and Taylor loyalists.
