Robert Rockaway, author of But He was Good to His Mother: The Lives and Crimes of Jewish Gangsters, says he discovered details of the investigation in FBI files dating from the 1930s. The FBI chief, J Edgar Hoover, is said to have ordered an agent to investigate the plot, which involved New York rabbis and Jewish gangsters who planned to have Hitler poisoned or shot.
