At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The unemployment total in Spain jumped by 128,242 people last month as the country's recession continues to take its toll.

More than 4.83 million people were registered as jobless at the end of October, an increase of 2.7% on September.

The nation's unemployment rate stood at 25% at the end of the third quarter. The jobless rate is 52% for those under 25.

Spain, the fourth largest economy among the 17 countries that use the euro, is in its second recession in three years.
