Soft leather, biker chicks and Aguilera ? how very Versace
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Milan Fashion Week came to an end last night with Donatella Versace presenting the final show of the autumn/winter 2003 Italian collections.
Donatella, the creative director of the house her late brother founded, delivered a collection that was, as they say, very Versace.
First up was the Versus range, the cheaper Versace line. Girls stomped out with backcombed hair wearing turquoise leather trousers, patchwork jersey dresses and yellow fur sliced into stoles and sporty jackets. But this aggressive Hell's Angels look almost seemed a caricature of the Versace style.
Next up was Gianni Versace, the main collection. From the sleek blonde hairstyles to the high-heeled ostrich leather shoes, this was a collection for women, not girls. It was also very Christina Aguilera – and she just happened to be in the front row.
Western fringe detailing decorated suede coats, a rabbit fur jacket and a corseted evening dress, all in cream and sand.
The evening wear, like that of so many other designers this week, took its cue from corsetry. The lace and chiffon dresses worn under corsets and the backless black tailored evening jackets with corset lacing were no doubt aimed at the Hollywood starlets who will be trotting down the red carpet at the Oscars on 23 March. And if they don't pick them up, we can always rely on Aguilera.
