FRANKFURT (AP) - Officials confirmed that two containers seized at the weekend housed highly radioactive caesium and strontium, and warned that 20kg (44lb) of bomb-grade uranium was missing.
Frankfurt's chief prosecutor said the caesium 137 and strontium 90 appeared to have come from Soviet stores. The prosecutor's office said, based on information uncovered in the investigation, that 20kg of weapons-grade uranium 235 was still unaccounted for.
Five Polish citizens were under arrest, and their ring-leader had confessed to the smuggling, Frankfurt police said.
