Salvadoreans went to the polls yesterday to elect the country's first president since the end of the 12-year civil war, AFP reports rom San Salvador. Armando Calderon, candidate of the conservative Nationalist Republican Alliance, and Ruben Zamora, candidate of a left-wing coalition including former guerrillas, were competing in the bitterly contested presidential run-off.
