Two men have been arrested after a pig was tied up and beaten with a sledgehammer in Spain.

The men, aged 38 and 51, are accused of attacking the Vietnamese Pot-bellied pig on a farm in Valladolid last Sunday.

They allegedly tied it to a fence and muzzled its snout before beating it with a sledgehammer, local media reported.

Witnesses rushed to help the pig and took it to a nearby vet.

However the animal suffered severe internal bleeding and had to be put down.

Spain’s National Police launched an investigation after the local community called for the attackers to be brought to justice.

The two men were arrested Saturday.

They have been released from custody and ordered to appear in court next week, Euro Weekly News Spain reported.
