ROME (AFP) - The Italian government replaced Palermo's police chief, Vito Plantone, amid continuing anger over the assassination in the Sicilian capital of the anti-Mafia judge, Paolo Borsellino, by a car-bomb on Sunday.
The Interior Ministry said Mr Plantone was being replaced immediately by Salerno's police chief, Matteo Cinque. Mr Plantone was being transferred to an unspecified post in the ministry's department of public security.
Palermo police were severely criticised for ineffective security provided for officials involved in the fight against the Mafia.
