SEOUL (Reuter) - The clash between the South Korean government and Chung Ju Yung, a presidential hopeful, intensified yesterday with news that police had detained executives from Mr Chung's Hyundai conglomerate. Police said three senior managers from the Hyundai Wood subsidiary spent the night in custody answering questions about alleged illegal campaign funding for Mr Chung.
Less than two weeks before the presidential election, Mr Chung is in third place but appears to be gaining ground at the expense of the majority party candidate, Kim Young Sam, according to political analysts.
