CATANIA (Reuter) - Giovanni Lizzio, 46, an anti-Mafia police inspector in Catania, was killed by gunmen as he was driving home yesterday, police said.
They said at least two men on motorcycles opened fire on Lizzio as he stopped at a traffic light on the outskirts of Catania, Sicily's second-largest city. He died on the way to hospital.
Lizzio was killed eight days after the top anti-Mafia judge Paolo Borsellino was killed by a huge car bomb in the Sicilian capital Palermo.
