Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman, the blind Egyptian cleric linked to an alleged bombing conspiracy in New York, surrendered to authorities at his Brooklyn mosque yesterday, Reuter reports from New York.
Officials detained the sheikh for questioning, but he was not charged over the alleged plot to bomb the United Nations or other New York buildings or in the World Trade Center explosion. Police have charged several of his followers in those cases, but the sheikh will face charges of violating immigration laws.
