A father and daughter from Spain have gone public about their incestuous relationship after their baby daughter was taken into care.

The 36-year-old man, only named as Cris, and his 18-year-old daughter, known as Sara, both from Malloca, protested the decision - saying they are in a loving relationship and should be allowed to keep the child.

Temporary custody of the child has been awarded to the state after authorities learned of the Cris’ abusive relationship with his ex-wife (Sara’s mother). The baby was taken from the couple hours after being born.

The couple who have reached out in the hope that their baby will be returned.

According to local paper, Cronica Balear, Cris said: “Our relationship started like they all do, with flirting, getting along and then trust.

“We may be father and daughter but she has never seen me as a parent because I am much more than like a friend than a father figure.”

The authorities are reported to have told Sara that if she wanted to keep the child she would have to move away to raise the baby alone or give the child up for adoption.

Incest is legal in Spain, so long as it is between two consenting adults.
