French President Emmanuel Macron will meet the singer Rihanna this week to discuss France’s funding of international education after she approached him on Twitter.

The meeting between the famous pair will take place at the Elysée Palace in Paris – Mr Macron’s official residence – where the R&B star will ask the President to commit to funding opportunities for children in developing countries.

In June, she used Twitter – where she has 75.4 million followers – to address the new President directly, writing: “Bonjour @Emmanuel Macron, will France commit to #FundEducation?”

In her role as ambassador for the Global Partnership for Education, the Rude Boy singer made similar Twitter approaches to other world leaders, including Argentine President Mauricio Macri and the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Last year, she tweeted to Mr Macron’s predecessor, François Hollande, who replied to her, saying: “Dear Rihanna, thank you for your commitment. You will receive my detailed response. In fact, education is the first priority.”

Details of the forthcoming meeting were revealed in Mr Macron’s weekly schedule.

When she became ambassador of the charity, the singer said: “I feel strongly that all children everywhere should be afforded the opportunity of a quality education.

“Therefore I’m proud to announce Clara Lionel Foundation’s partnership with education advocacy leaders like the Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen. Working together, I know we can amplify our efforts and ensure that millions of children gain access to education globally.”

The star also founded the Clara Lionel Foundation, named after her grandparents, which supports international educational projects worldwide, including in her home country of Barbados.

Mr Macron has recently hosted Donald Trump and other world leaders at the Elysée Palace following his landslide victory in France’s presidential election.
