From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Your support makes all the difference.President of the European Council Donald Tusk has uploaded a video onto Twitter in which he whacks a football into the face of his pet dog.
The former Polish Prime Minister can be seen playing football in the snow as the dog joins in, before he hits the ball at close range into the animal’s face.
The dog looks unperturbed and carries on playing, as Mr Tusk uploaded the video with the caption, “do not worry about Robert’s injury.”
Users on social media expressed concern for the dog’s safety, with Twitter user Luke James writing, “European Council president is much better at football than expected but not so hot on animal welfare.”
Mr Tusk has previously exhibited a similarly dogged approach to the Brexit negotiations.
