Egyptian police rounded up more than 300 men in the south Egyptian city of Assiut as a precaution against any Muslim militant operation during celebrations of the sighting of the Ramadan new moon, Reuter reports from Assiut.
Armoured cars deployed in the streets and the police set up new checkpoints in the city, one of the centres of the conflict between the security forces and the fundamentalist el-Gamaat el-Islamiya (the Islamic Group).
