Kiev - Crimean law-makers backed away from a confrontation with Ukraine's central government, cancelling plans to hold a referendum on restoring the Black Sea peninsula's constitution. The Crimean legislature voted 52-0, with one abstention, to abandon plans for a referendum next month on the constitution, which was

declared invalid by the Ukrainian parliament in March. AP
