China's government uses drilling to teach university students to keep in step

Since the Tiananmen Square massacre on 4 June 1989, first-year students at Peking universities have had to do a full year's military training. Last night after the lights were turned out at midnight students staged a small protest in their dormitories to mark the fourth anniversary of the massacre. Bottles were thrown and students could be heard whistling and making cat calls
