MEXICO CITY - Mexico is investigating a hit-and-run collision which critically injured a top opposition candidate for governor of Chiapas state, site of a smouldering Indian rebellion. Amado Avendano Figueroa, a lawyer who has represented Indian peasants in land disputes, suffered head injuries and six broken ribs in the collision. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
