The actress Kim Basinger, who was recently ordered to pay a production company nearly dollars 7.4m after backing out of a film, has filed for bankruptcy, Reuter reports from Los Angeles.
Her attorney, Howard Weitzman, said the action was intended to allow Basinger to appeal against the award against her. Had she not filed, she would have had to post an dollars 11.1m bond, Weitzman said. Basinger lost her case against Main Line Pictures, who sued her for breach of contract over the film Boxing Helena. The jury awarded the film-makers dollars 8.9m, reduced by the judge to dollars 7.4m.
