CCTV footage has shown the moment a man pushed a woman onto railway tracks before walking away calmly.

Captured at Hong Kong’s Yuen Long station and shared widely on social media, it shows a man approaching the woman as she stands at the edge of the platform, before pushing her onto the tracks.

A train was not passing through the station at the time.

The 59-year-old woman, who is thought to work as a cleaner at the station, was taken to hospital where she was treated for injuries to the jaw.

A police spokeswoman said officers had arrested a man near the railway station on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

“The woman suffered injuries to her jaw and was sent to Pok Oi Hospital for treatment,” she told the South China Morning Post.

Officers from the Yuen Long criminal investigation division are investigating the motive behind the attack.
