Security reviewed after pupil killings in China

Guards patrol the playground of a Beijing primary school yesterday as campuses across China tigthened security following a spate of attacks on children.

In the latest incident on Wednesday – the eighth such assault in 10 weeks – Wu Huanming, 48, took a meat cleaver to a kindergarten in Hanzhong, central China, and hacked to death seven pupils and two adults. Eleven children were wounded.

Wu, a disgruntled landlord who was reportedly involved in a dispute about the school's lease, later committed suicide.
