The 29-year-old rickshaw puller known only as Aslam was playing cards with his friends Dharambir, 26, and Ajay, 22, in the Sunder Nagri area of New Delhi when the fight which led to his death broke out.

"They had consumed liquor and played cards on that evening. Aslam won Rs5 (6p) in the game from Dharambir," a police spokesman said.

"Dharambir asked Aslam to give him back the money but Aslam refused and this led to a scuffle," he added.

Dharambir and Ajay allegedly murdered Aslam by smashing his face with heavy stones, he said.

The pair have been arrested and are being questioned about the killing.
