Toyota started recalling Lexus and Crown luxury vehicles in Japan over an engine defect in the latest setback for the car manufacturer beset with quality problems.
Toyota said actions in overseas markets will follow soon.
The world's top car maker told the government today it is recalling 91,903 vehicles in Japan for flaws in the valve springs. The defect could make the vehicle stall while it is moving.
Toyota disclosed the problem last week and said it planned action. It affects some 270,000 vehicles around the world.
The company said it received 220 complaints about the problem but no crashes were reported.
