Donald Trump, Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz will go head-to-head tonight alongside seven other Republican party presidential candidates in the first live TV clash on the GOP's road to the White House.

The main debate will be broadcast live from Cleveland at 9pm Eastern Time on the FOX News Channel, according to the network.

The outspoken tycoon Donald Trump is heading in the opinion polls and has therefore secured a position at the centre of the podium. He will be debating with nine other Republican hopefuls.
