From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Westboro Baptist Church are planning to picket the home of Kim Davis, who spent six days in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
The church says she is a "proud, self-righteous hypocrite" and an "adulterer".
"God Almighty put a spotlight upon the proud, self-righteous hypocrites that think the same-sex marriage sin is worse than their adultery sin," the church said in a statement.
They went on to mention Ms Davis' four marriages, which it says are adulterous, claiming: "That man that Kim Davis is living with, and calling her husband, IS NOT! Her husband is Dwain Wallace, who she married when she was 18-tears-old.
"It was adultery at the beginning, adultery in the middle and it is indeed adultery today!"
Ms Davis was sent to jail for six days on 3 September for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses, citing her biblical opposition to same-sex marriage.
The Westboro Baptist Church, formerly led by hate preacher Fred Phelps and his immediate family, are known for protesting soldiers funerals, where they claim the deceased were killed because "god hates fags".
