The body of an Iraq war veteran suspected of shooting a park ranger is believed to have been found last night. Twenty-four-year-old Benjamin Colton Barnes apparently died after trudging into chest-deep snow in the Washington state park while trying to elude SWAT team members and other police who were on his trail.

Barnes reportedly fled to the remote Mount Rainier National Park following an earlier shooting that wounded four people near Seattle.

Washington State Patrol spokesman Guy Gill said a body believed to be Barnes was found face-down in the snow. His identity has not been confirmed.

Park visitors had been evacuated from the area following the killing of ranger Margaret Anderson on Sunday. The park remained closed on Monday as more than 100 police officers launched a hunt for Barnes.
