The footage shows the burglar on all fours, clenching a knife between his teeth, moving around the bedroom where the family of five are all sleeping.
The video ends with the burglar examining a mobile phone - soon after, the father woke up, prompting the burglar to escape.
The incident took place early Wednesday morning in Queens, New York, and the footage was recorded on a nanny camera.
The burglar remains at large and the NYPD has released the footage in an attempt to capture him.
He is described as being 6’2” tall and weighing 200 pounds.
