From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It's not something that you see everyday which is probably the reason that a video of a man dancing with his pet raccoon has gone viral.
In the short video Mark 'Kuhn Rippy' Brown can be seen waltzing along to Aretha Franklin's Chain of Fools with his raccoon Gunshow. At first Mr Brown can be seen dancing by himself while his raccoon watches but it is not long before he is roped in.
The video was uploaded earlier this month and generated so much interest that breakfast programme Good Morning America contacted Mr Brown about broadcasting it. Both Gunshow and Mr Brown have become internet sensations with the video amassing nearly 400,000 views.
The self-confessed 'hillbilly' has uploaded dozens of videos onto YouTube featuring himself and Gunshow. In one video Mr Brown talks about using Hannah Montana body spray, which doubles up as raccoon repellent to stop Gunshow from scratching him. In another video Gunshow is being cleaned using Hannah Montana shampoo.
