White House staffers 'have mixed views on Donald Trump’s sexist tweet'

Some reportedly praised the tweets. Others kept their heads down.

White House staffers were reportedly divided on what they thought of Donald Trump’s controversial remarks about MSNBC’s TV host Mika Brzezinski.

Mr Trump received widespread criticism after he attacked Ms Brzezinski’s appearance in a tweet, which both Democrats and Republicans declared was sexist and inappropriate.

In a Thursday morning tweetstorm, the President alleged she and Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough had “insisted” on visiting his south Florida resort Mar-a-Lago. He also claimed Ms Brzezinski was “bleeding badly from a face-lift” at the time.

According to the New York Post, Mr Trump asked staffers for their opinions about his social media post, saying “I know it wasn’t presidential, but what did you think?”

“He wanted to get people’s reactions and sense what the fallout might be,” a source told the New York newspaper.

Some praised the tweets, the Post reported. Others kept their heads down.

Mr Trump's remarks sparked a public feud that has pitted himself against Ms Brzezinski and Mr Scarborough. As part of their revenge, the two co-hosts published an article questioning the President's mental health in one of the US's leading newspapers.

Even if some of his staffers may not approve of some of his social media posts, Mr Trump appears unlikely to change his Twitter habits.

“The FAKE & FRAUDULENT NEWS MEDIA is working hard to convince Republicans and others I should not use social media – but remember, I won...” he tweeted on Saturday, adding on Sunday morning, “My use of social media is not Presidential – it’s MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL. Make America Great Again!”
