Trump heads to golf course on first day out of White House

The ex-president's local opposition is putting pressure on Palm Beach County to cancel leases with the Trump International Golf Club

A convoy of black SUVs spotted at the Florida resort of Donald Trump suggests the ex-president is spending his first day as a civilian much in the same way he spent his days as commander-in-chief.

The motorcade was seen entering the Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach at 10.36am, according to The Washington Examiner.

With Joe Biden spending his first night in the White House watching fireworks displays and signing executive orders, the images posted to Twitter from reporter Rob Crilly indicate Mr Trump spent his first morning out of the Oval Office on the greens.

While Mr Trump’s love for golf, and his time spent playing during his presidency are well known, it has also become his refuge following major defeats.

On the weekend Joe Biden was announced as winner of the presidential election, Mr Trump spent two days on the greens at the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia.  

While secluding himself from the public as the election results continued to fall in Mr Biden’s direction, Mr Trump was seen in video footage at the club greeting fans and posing with a bride on her wedding day.

As club members shouted "we love you" and "great job, Mr President", Mr Trump posed with a bride on her wedding day, saying: "Have a great life, right?"  

Although the Palm Beach course is one of Mr Trump’s most-visited fairways, Palm Beach County is looking for ways to cancel its contract with Trump International Golf Club.

The County’s chief assistant attorney, Howard Falcon, told The Palm Beach Post that commissioners had requested the review of Trump’s lease. It comes after New York mayor Bill de Blasio announced his intention to cut ties with the Trump Organization in the city’s parks.

According to his last financial disclosure on his way out of the White House, the golf club generates more than $13m in golf-related revenue.
