From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Mr Biden told CNN’S Anderson Cooper that he had talked with all his predecessors since entering the White House, with the exception of Mr Trump.
But the president refused to go into details about the conversations, insisting they were “private.”
“And by the way all of them have, with one exception, picked up the phone and called me as well,” said Mr Biden to laughs from the audience in Milwaukee.
Mr Biden gave Mr Cooper a broad grin as the news channel host also chuckled at the line.
But the president did refer to Mr Trump by name on several occasions during the live town hall event, his first since his January inauguration.
When Mr Cooper asked the president for his thoughts on Mr Trump’s acquittal at his senate impeachment, Mr Biden refused to take the bait.
“For four years all that has been in the news is Trump. The next four years I want to make sure that all the news is about the American people,” said Mr Biden.
“I’m tired of talking about Trump. It’s done.”
On a second occasion the president found himself talking about ways to help small businesses and again found himself veering towards the topic of Mr Trump.
“I’m tired of talking about Donald Trump. I don’t want to talk about him anymore.”
And during a discussion of the pandemic and opening the economy back up, he even referred to Mr Trump as “the former guy.”
