The age of Sean Spicer has come to an end.

Donald Trump’s first White House press secretary stepped down after a tumultuous six months with the administration that saw Mr Spicer speaking for a President whose behavior and following comments he couldn’t completely predict.

But, while Mr Spicer was ultimately forced in his role to defend the President against an escalating investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia, there were also some relatively light moments. Enough so, in fact, that he was honoured with a repeating Saturday Night Live character.

"It's been an honour and a privilege to serve [President Donald Trump] and this amazing country," Mr Spicer tweeted after the news that he had resigned splashed onto the homepages of news outlets across the country. "I will continue my service through August."
