Michael Cohen’s memoir detailing his time working with President Donald Trump is reportedly being turned into a Hollywood film.
Mr Cohen’s book, Disloyal: A Memoir, which recounted his time working with the president, was published on 8 September 2020 and topped The New York Times bestseller list.
Mr Trump’s former attorney is now working on adapting the book into a film, with the help of an Oscar nominated director, executive producer and screenwriter, a source close to the project told DailyMail.com.
The source told the Mail: “The project is very much in the works, there's several big names involved. The director, screenwriter and executive producer are all highly regarded in their respective fields.
“The team is speaking with casting companies and is in talks with several movie studios.”
The source added: “The director has won or has been nominated for more than 50 awards, including Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations and the screenwriter and executive producer are both Oscar nominees.”
Mr Cohen pleaded guilty in 2018 to tax evasion and campaign finance violations, including paying hush money to women who claimed to have had affairs with Mr Trump, and reported to prison on 6 May 2019, before being released earlier this year due to Covid-19 concerns.
Mr Trump’s former attorney said he violated campaign finance rules under the direction of the president, “for the principal purpose of influencing” the 2016 presidential election. The president denies these claims.
The source claimed that the film will be a “full adaptation” of Mr Cohen’s memoir, and will not just focus on Mr Trump.
“It's about Cohen's journey working for a narcissistic sociopath and how that journey landed him in jail,” they claimed.
Mr Cohen confirmed the project to the Mail, but declined to comment further, saying: “It's in the early stages.”
Since being released from prison, Mr Cohen has started a podcast, named Mea Culpa, in collaboration with Audio Up Media and the pro-Biden campaign group MeidasTouch.
Guests have included former White House director of communications Anthony Scaramucci and comedian Rosie O'Donnell.
On Wednesday, the New York Post reported that President Trump could be offered $100m (£76m) in TV and book deals when he leaves the White House.
A source familiar with the President told the Post: “Trump is being bombarded with book and TV deals that could be worth a staggering $100 million.”
However, another source dismissed the claim and told the paper that the numbers “don’t sound accurate.”
