Melania Trump did not tell her husband's lawyer she believes Donald Trump's dismissal of Stormy Daniels' claim the two had an affair, her spokeswoman has said.

Rudi Giuliani had originially claimed the first lady “believes her husband and she doesn’t think it’s true.”

However, Stephanie Grisham, Ms Trump’s spokeswoman, said: ”I don’t believe Mrs Trump has ever discussed her thoughts on anything with Mr Giuliani.”

In later comments to Business Insider, Mr Giuliani said he "did not discuss" the allegations with Ms Trump.

He said it was his "opinion" the first lady believes her husband, adding: "Because I believe the Daniels woman has changed her story at least three times and is not credible."

Speaking at a conference in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, Mr Giuliani said Ms Daniels' claim isn’t credible because she is a porn actress with “no reputation.”

He said: “I’m sorry I don’t respect a porn star the way I respect a career woman or a woman of substance or a woman who isn’t going to sell her body for sexual exploitation.”

Ms Daniels’ work as a porn star ”entitles you to no degree of giving your credibility any weight,” he said, before going on to say people could “just look” at her to know she wasn’t believable.

His comments drew condemnation from the porn industry and Ms Daniels' lawyer, Michael Avenatti, who called on Mr Trump to immediately fire his attorney.

He called Mr Giuliani a “misogynist” and said his client ”should be celebrated for her courage, strength and intelligence” and he would “put her character up against Mr Giuliani’s any day of the week.”

Ms Daniels, also known as Stephanie Clifford, claimed she had sex with Mr Trump in 2006, just months after Melania give birth to their son.

Mr Trump has denied the allegations.
