The soon-to-be former first lady will leave the White House on 20 January and will likely establish permanent residence at Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida.
But it was not anticipated for Ms Trump to leave the White House “as quietly as you might expect," according to a source in the Page Six report.
“Melania is in meetings to write her White House memoir,” the source said. “And it would be her money — a chance for her to earn on her own.”
Mr Trump was reportedly “encouraging her” to pursue writing the memoir, the source added.
This book would come after Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, former senior adviser and friend to Mrs Trump, released her own tell-all memoir about the first lady in September titled Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship With the First Lady.
In the memoir, Mrs Wolkoff detailed her personal relationship with the first lady, including personal conversations that didn’t put Ms Trump in the best light. Besides releasing the memoir, Mrs Wolkoff also unveiled a series of leaked tapes of conversations she recorded with the first lady.
Ms Trump addressed the controversial memoir in an essay she penned for the White House website. But she didn’t name Mrs Wolkoff in the essay, and instead claimed she “hardly knew” the former adviser.
"We all know that more often than not, information that could be helpful to children is lost in the noise made by self-serving adults. I have most recently found this to be the case as major news outlets eagerly covered salacious claims made by a former contractor who advised my office. A person who said she 'made me' even though she hardly knew me, and someone who clung to me after my husband won the Presidency," Ms Trump wrote.
Writing her own memoir could be a way for Ms Trump to address past moments during her four years in the White House, including discussing Ms Wolkoff’s memoir and the first lady’s infamous “I really don’t care, do u?” jacket she wore in 2018.
She might not be the only one within the Trump administration to write a tell-all after leaving the White House.
Mr Trump has indicated he might write his own memoir after journalist Bob Woodward released his books Fear and Rage about the Trump presidency.
"The Woodward book is a Joke - just another assault against me, in a barrage of assaults, using now disproven unnamed and anonymous sources. Many have already come forward to say the quotes by them, like the book, are fiction. Dems can’t stand losing. I’ll write the real book!" Mr Trump tweeted in September.
