Donald Trump’s ex-wife has caused outrage after suggesting that US immigrants" don’t get jobs" and “steal and rape women” during an interview on Loose Women.

The 71-year-old, who was married to Donald Trump for 15 years, appeared as a guest on the ITV show where she praised her ex-husband’s immigration policies.

“He's achieved so much, especially with immigration,” Ms Trump, who grew up in Czechoslovakia before moving to Canada, said.

“I am immigrant, but they have to come to the country legally, they have to get a job, they have to pay taxes like the rest of Americans," she added

The president’s ex-wife went on to lash out at immigrants who “don't dress American” and concluded the controversial rant by saying they “rape women”.

“And they don't get a job and they steal and they rape the women. That's not our idea,” she said.

Many social media users were quick to criticse the former model, calling the interview a “car crash”.

“Ivana Trump omg!! Her remarks on immigration absolutely disturbing.#LooseWomen,” one user said.

Some criticised the English broadcasting channel for hosting Ms Trump in the first place, and branding her views “ignorant” and “racist”.

“I’ve registered a complaint to Ofcom regarding Ivana Trump. The producers should have stopped the interview after the break. The panel looked horrified,” another user wrote.

“Ivana is basically Donald. So hypocritical re immigrants. Appalling, vile woman. Bad move ITV - don’t ever have her back,” another said.

“Why would you have such a vile racist woman( Ivana Trump)  with her disgusting views on immigration on your show. I’m so offended with her comments. People like her should not be on live TV,” one user posted.

Others praised panelist Jane Moore for challenging her on the views after she said: “what you've just said about migrants a lot of people would find quite offensive."

“Well done Jane Moore for standing up to that ridiculous and offensive Trump woman. What hideous views Ivana has. Her and Donnie deserved eachother,” a user wrote.

The president has been continuously been criticised for his views on immigration and refugees both during his campaign and in his first term as president.

Amidst the coronavirus outbreak, 8,800 children were deported from the US along the Mexican border due to a new pandemic-related measure that functionally stripped the rights of those seeking asylum put in place by the Trump administration.

The administration expelled nearly 160,000 people since the emergency order proclaimed by the Centres for Disease Control took effect in March including roughly 7,600 adults and children who came to the US in families.
