From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Donald Trump is preparing to challenge the election result if he loses, according to reports.

As he did in 2020, Trump has been laying the foundations for months to challenge the results if he loses next week.

Some of those closest to Trump have suggested he might claim victory before the votes are fully counted, the New York Times reported, and he is already claiming the Democrats are “a bunch of cheats."

“It’s been four years of spreading lies about elections and recruiting volunteers to challenge the system, filing litigation,’’ Joanna Lydgate of the nonprofit States United Democracy Center, told the newspaper. “What we’re seeing today is all of that coming to fruition.”

The fears come as his former national security adviser, John Bolton, told CNN "we should be ready" for Trump not to accept the results if he loses.

Harris and Trump are spending their weekends making their final pitches in the key battleground states.

On Saturday, Harris will campaign in Atlanta, Georgia, before heading to Charlotte, North Carolina where Bon Jovi and Brittney Spencer will perform.

Trump, meanwhile, will hold rallies in Gastonia and Greensboro, North Carolina, where he will speak about immigration and the economy.

Arizona county that will play major role in deciding election is desperately searching for more vote counters

Maricopa County is seeking election workers following a record-breaking surge of early voters — four years after the Arizona county became the target of Donald Trump’s election fraud claims.

Dubbed the “nation’s ultimate swing county” by the Associated Press, Maricopa County could determine the presidential race. But first, they need to find more early voter tabulators as over one million people have already cast their ballots early, officials said.

The Maricopa County Recorder’s office “URGENTLY needs additional help processing early ballots,” an email from the Maricopa County Public Health Department said on Wednesday. The message read: “Temporary assistance needed for the Recorder’s Office to assist in counting early ballots. This position pays $16 per hour,” according to a reporter from 12 News.
