Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has suggested that she will push to make sure Congress obtains Donald Trump’s tax returns, even as the president repeatedly focuses on collusion as a primary threat to his administration.
Ms Ocasio-Cortez said during a press conference she thinks that the most pressing issue she sees is finding out what financial ties the president has.
Mr Trump has repeatedly attacked the investigations underway against him and claims there was no collusion between his campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.
“While he’s talking collusion, collusion, collusion, I think, in [the House Oversight Committee], we should be talking about taxes, taxes, taxes, and his bank account, his bank account, his bank account. His financial statements, statements, statements,” Ms Ocasio-Cortez said, noting that other investigatory bodies are concerning themselves with the issue of collusion.
She continued: “Because that’s where I think actually some of the most troubling practices are with direct relevance to the American people.”

During the press conference, Ms Ocasio-Cortez also said she would defer to Democratic Party leadership in the House on whether they should move forward with impeachment for Mr Trump, but that she believes there was enough evidence to do so if necessary.
