Chris Wallace, the event’s moderator, asked Mr Trump about his recently unearthed comments from 2005 when he bragged about grabbing women’s genitalia without consent and the stories of sexual assault that followed.
Mr Trump suggested that the women were merely seeking fame and their accusations were planted by Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. He then segued into accusing President Barack Obama of paying protesters to incite violence at his rallies.
“I believe she got these people to step forward,” Trump said in his response. “It was lies and it was fiction.”
Next, Mr Trump boasted that "nobody has more respect for women than me" and said that he never apologized to his wife Melania when the alleged victims came forward went public their stories.
“I don’t know these people. I have a feeling how this came, it was her campaign,” Mr Trump continued. “I didn’t even apologize to my wife, who is sitting right here, because I didn’t do anything.”
However, just one day ago, Ms Trump said that her husband apologized for the leaked, decade-old audio where he bragged about groping women with a giggling Billy Bush.
“Those words, they were offensive to me and they were inappropriate,” she told Fox & Friends. “And he apologized to me. And I expect, I accept his apology. And we are moving on.”
