Donald Trump has attacked Mike Bloomberg in a series of scathing tweets, calling the billionaire presidential hopeful a “LOSER who has money” while posting a bizarre photoshopped image of the former New York City mayor.

“Mini Mike Bloomberg is a LOSER who has money but can’t debate and has zero presence, you will see,” the president tweeted on Thursday morning, adding: “He reminds me of a tiny version of Jeb ‘Low Energy’ Bush, but Jeb has more political skill and has treated the Black community much better than Mini!”

Mr Trump also posted a tweet from Dan Scavino, White House director of social media, featuring an image of Mr Bloomberg photoshopped in front of a stack of regulations.

The original photo was taken in 2017 during a symbolic ribbon cutting ceremony the president held in the White House, when he vowed to push for deregulation. In the photoshopped image, Mr Bloomberg can be seen standing in front of the massive pile of regulations as Mr Trump cuts a ribbon.

Mr Trump then mocked Mr Bloomberg in a second tweet, calling him a “5’4 mass of dead energy who does not want to be on the debate stage with these professional politicians”.

The president also referred to Bernie Sanders, claiming Mr Bloomberg “hates Crazy Bernie and will, with enough money, possibly stop him”.

He added: “Bernie’s people will go nuts!”

The president was appearing to weigh in on the latest developments in the 2020 Democratic primaries, in which Mr Sanders holds a formidable lead along with Pete Buttigieg after the two both had strong showings in Iowa and New Hampshire.

But Mr Bloomberg became one of the last candidates to throw his hat the ring, passing over the first-in-the-nation votes to instead opt for a heavily-funded advertising campaign in key primary states.

Mr Bloomberg, who has not yet appeared on a debate stage with the rest of the candidates vying for a shot at unseating Mr Trump in the general election, has released ads attacking Mr Trump and presenting himself as a formidable moderate candidate capable of uniting the party against the Republican incumbent.

The billionaire has also self-funded the entirety of his campaign, reportedly hiring a massive amount of new staffers nationwide and doubling his advertising spending in crucial states after the Iowa caucus.

“The other candidates, they spend all their time in a couple of states that I wanted to enter but I came too late to go there," Mr Bloomberg told supporters at a rally on Wednesday night., adding: “I want to be very clear about why I am here in this race … I am running to defeat Donald Trump."

Mr Bloomberg continued: "He's not going to bully me and I won't let him bully you either.”
