Your support makes all the difference.Donald Trump on Friday said he might “stop by and say hello” at a MAGA rally in Washington DC on Saturday in a tweet immediately flagged by Twitter for including misinformation about the 2020 Presidential Election.
“Heartwarming to see all of the tremendous support out there, especially the organic Rallies that are spring up all over the County, including a big one on Saturday in D.C. I may even try to stop by and say hello,” Mr Trump tweeted before digressing into unsubstantiated claims about the 3 November election: “This Election was Rigged, from Dominion all the way up & down!”
“Dominion” refers to Dominion Voting Systems, the software provider that local governments around the country use to run elections.
Twitter immediately flagged the tweet with the disclaimer: “This claim about election fraud is disputed”.
The “disputed” tweet comes as Mr Trump was set to deliver his first public remarks since his defeat by President-elect Joe Biden.
Mr Trump has refused to concede the presidency and continues to make baseless allegations about widespread voter fraud – despite officials within his own administration admitting there is no solid evidence to back up his claims.
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany has said the presidents "not even at that point yet" when it comes to conceding to Biden.
Although Mr Trump hasn't answered questions since before Election Day, his Twitter habit has continued unabated. He’s used the platform almost exclusively in to rage over the election results and spread unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud.
By late Thursday afternoon, Mr Trump had tweeted or retweeted more than three dozen times that day. Just one was related to the resurgent coronavirus pandemic.
Public health experts have warned that the president’s refusal to take action on the pandemic or to coordinate with the Biden team during the final two months of his presidency will only exacerbate the effects of the virus and hamper the nation's ability to distribute a vaccine.
