Pittsburgh Steelers buy dinner for workers at ballot-counting site
NFL team provides rigatoni, pies, and more
As Pennsylvania ballot counters continued working late into the night on Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers lent a helping hand by sending them catered meals.
In a video shared on Twitter, Allegheny County thanked the NFL team for sending "chicken, rigatoni, veggies, rolls, pies, and more" to the election staffers working hard to process the thousands of remaining mail-in and absentee ballots.
The county said it was "grateful" for the "wonderful" gesture.
An employee who delivered the food told CNN that the meals were enough to feed 65 people and that it was all paid for by the Steelers.
No Steelers players were present at the Allegheny County warehouse, presumably to avoid any risks during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
It is unclear which of the team's players and personnel came up with the generous idea, though linebacker Vince Williams tweeted his approval.
The presidential race in Pennsylvania between Donald Trump and Joe Biden remains too close to call, as votes continue to come in from around the battleground state.
Allegheny County, the state's second most populous county, remains a key player in the race.
On Thursday afternoon, Pennsylvania secretary of state Kathy Boockvar said counties' ballot counts are "ahead of schedule" and that we "definitely could" know the winner by the end of the day.
