From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Marjorie Taylor Green was mocked for wearing a “censored” mask as she spoke on live TV at Donald Trump’s impeachment.

The QAnon-supporting congresswoman donned the black mask with the phrase written in white letters across it as she addressed Congress.

The Georgia politician was immediately derided on social media by people pointing out the absurdity of her position.

“The death of irony: Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene wears a mask that says ‘censored’ as she speaks into a microphone in the House Chamber on national television,” tweeted Karen Tumulty of the Washington Post.

"GOP Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, making a speech on the House floor, broadcast across ALL the national television networks, wears a mask that says ‘censored,’” added @mikedmarler on Twitter.

Ms Greene used her time to unabashedly support Donald Trump and minimise his role in the Capitol violence, while attacking Black Lives Matter protests last year.

“He has held over 600 rallies in the last four years and none of them included assaulting police, destroying businesses or burning down cities,” she said.

“Democrats have spent all this time endorsing and enabling violent riots that left billions in property damage and 47 dead.”

Ms Greene Greene, a freshman congresswoman elected last November, has previously been accused of making Islamophobic comments, and claiming that white men are the “most mistreated” group in America.

She has won praise from Mr Trump, who even called her a “future Republican star.”

Before her speech Ms Greene, and those who share her political positions, were denounced as “depraved” and “dangerous” by congressman Jason Crow.

“There are, unfortunately, a handful of members of Congress — and Ms Taylor Green is just one of them — who are morally bankrupt,” the Democrat told CNN.

“They are depraved, and they’re frankly dangerous individuals.”
