From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. One day before the US Election, The Lincoln Project is making its anti-Donald Trump stance loud and clear.
The political action committee, which was founded last year by a group of former Republican strategists, took to Twitter on Monday to fire off some last-minute takedowns of President Trump. The first tweet was a simple call to action: "Tomorrow is Election Day. Make a plan to vote. Look up your polling location. Volunteer. This is it. We can do this. Let’s bring it home."
That was followed by a couple of pro-Joe Biden tweets hyping up the Democratic presidential candidate. "#BidenIsWinning," read one tweet, while another declared, "This is Joe Biden's moment."
The next few posts, however, targeted Mr Trump specifically by alleging that his days in the White House are numbered. "Donald Trump caused the problem. And we will fix it tomorrow," read one tweet. Another promised, "Donald Trump doesn't get to decide the future of America's leadership. The American people do."
The latter post was accompanied by the debut of a video ad starring Star Wars' Mark Hamill. In it, the actor gives Americans a crash course in political history and reminds them that the US’s track record with voting rights is a troubled one. In the end, he delivers a crucial, timely reminder: "Elections have consequences."
On Monday evening, the Lincoln Project capped its volley of tweets with a message on behalf of its supporters: "Donald Trump, the American people are speaking directly to you with a simple message: It’s time to start packing your bags." That tweet was accompanied by a clip in which a voiceover proclaims, "A new day begins on November 3."
The Lincoln Project was founded with the express goal of voting Mr Trump and his Congressional enablers out of office. It boasts over 2.6 million followers on Twitter, and has consistently churned out viral ads, videos, and tweets throughout the election season.
